FOR ENTREPRENEURS / A WORKED EXAMPLE

The order arrived. Where did the profit go?

A simple worked example of checking what a sale leaves behind before promoting it harder.

An offer can attract orders and still leave too little to pay for your time. More promotion makes that problem larger if the costs remain invisible.

  1. Write the whole cost

List product, packaging, delivery, payment fees, returns allowance and time. Separate the cash contribution from your estimate of labour cost; both matter.

  2. Choose one change to test

For example, show delivery as a separate charge or offer collection. Do not change the price and the bundle at the same time if you want to understand the response.

  3. Make the offer concrete

“A notebook bundle packed for a team welcome kit, with the total price and delivery date confirmed before payment.” Use only promises you can fulfil.

  4. Ask five relevant buyers

Speak to people who actually organise team purchases. Ask about their last order, constraints and budget. Record objections and genuine next steps; compliments alone are weak evidence.

The next decision is whether the offer is useful and workable at a viable price. Five conversations are a small test, not a market forecast.
