FOR ENTREPRENEURS / A WORKED EXAMPLE

“Would you buy this?” is too easy to answer.

Three customer questions that reveal more than polite enthusiasm.

People may encourage an idea without intending to pay for it. Building stock around that encouragement can tie up money you need elsewhere.

  1. Ask about a real event

“Tell me about the last time you organised welcome items.” Ask what triggered the purchase and who made the decision.

  2. Find the costly difficulty

“What took longer or cost more than expected?” Listen before suggesting your product. If there was no meaningful problem, record that too.

  3. Agree an honest next step

If there is a fit, offer a clearly scoped quote or sample with realistic timing. Do not take deposits for work you cannot deliver. Record a declined offer without pressuring the buyer.

A real purchasing story helps you improve an offer. A quote request or agreed test is stronger evidence than a compliment, but neither guarantees a sale.

Put it into practice.
